Why Tech Blogging Remains Essential in an AI-Driven World

Blogging has been a staple for quite some time, but the rise of AI has remarkably changed the landscape for many bloggers. In particular, the tech sector has felt this shift, with traffic to major sites like stackoverflow seeing a significant decline since the launch of ChatGPT in late 2022.

So, does this mean we should throw in the towel and seek out other pursuits as bloggers?

In this article, I’ll outline two important reasons why blogging isn’t going anywhere despite the rise of AI, and why you should keep at it, whether you blog for passion or as a profession.

AI always relies on data to function effectively.

Blogging, in any format, creates content that benefits a wide range of audiences, including AI itself. It’s important to remember that ChatGPT was trained on data from sources like Stack Overflow and various blog content. In other words, without the rich data provided by bloggers, ChatGPT wouldn’t exist in its current form.

You might wonder if we should keep blogging just so AI can take advantage of our content. The answer is no. We should continue blogging because our unique, authentic voices and perspectives create content that AI simply cannot replicate.

Sometimes, learning from a classmate can be more effective than learning from a teacher.

Have you ever found yourself in a situation at school where you needed to ask a classmate for help because the teacher’s explanation just didn’t click for you? Often, a classmate can provide a straightforward explanation that’s easier to digest than a teacher’s more formal approach. This is because classmates often use simpler methods and a personal touch that resonate better with how you think.

This parallels how blogging and AI function in the content creation industry. While AI can provide quick answers to your questions, a well-crafted blog post often explains things in a clearer and more digestible manner, making it easier for you to understand the topic.

Whenever I write a blog post, it typically comes after I’ve solved a problem, making the post a reflection of my approach to that issue. This uniqueness is what sets blogging apart and ensures its longevity. While you might find similar topics covered in multiple blog posts, each one offers a distinct perspective that showcases the writer’s critical thinking and personal insights.

Where to go from here

My blog is no exception, its traffic significantly declined after the launch of ChatGPT. However, it is gradually regaining its organic reach. For instance, my most popular article continues to attract several hundred visitors each month, even after more than a decade since it was published.

I believe the key to sustainable blogging lies in staying committed to your writing habits and maintaining your authentic voice. By continually reformulating the information you share with your audience, your blog will continue to reward you over time.
